CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University of Maine freshman Matthias Trattnig was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie team Thursday, but no Black Bear was named to the Hockey East All-Conference team.
Trattnig, who has 8 goals and 9 assists, was one of eight freshmen named to the All-Rookie team.
Eight Hockey East underclassmen were among the 12 players named to the All-Conference first and second teams at the league award ceremony.
Boston University center Chris Drury was chosen Player of the Year for the second year in a vote of league head coaches. The Rookie of the Year was BU’s Brian Gionta.
The top-seeded Terriers, who were eliminated from the league tournament by upstart No. 8 Merrimack, had four players make All-Conference, more than any team.
Maine Junior Steve Kariya received the Len Ceglarski Sportsmanship Award for the second straight year. The Black Bears retained the Hockey East Sportsmanship Banner for its league-low 15:53 penalty minutes per game this season.
