State Senate approves parolee notification bill

AUGUSTA — A bill requiring notification when a parolee is released into a Maine community was working its way through the Legislature on Tuesday.

The Senate gave preliminary approval to the bill, which would require the Department of Corrections to alert police departments whenever the agency furloughs a prisoner or an out-of-state offender is paroled in Maine.

Police would then be able to notify residents of planned releases.
