Residents and visitors in Portland can breathe easier now. On April 7 the city council passed an ordinance to ban smoking in all restaurants in the municipality. Though smoking will be allowed in certain restaurants with separate ventilated rooms, this ordinance is indeed a bold start toward more legislation protecting public health in Maine.
