I read with great interest Cal Thomas’ column, “Another black eye for CBS” (BDN, April 10), and thought of the similarity Bangor finds itself in with the city council and the sleaze business on State Street called Diva’s. While the silent majority await the city fathers to vote it out of business, the city fathers are telling the public, please come forward and tell us you do not want this.

I no longer live in town and cannot vote for my council member but I would indeed find out what that councilman believed about representing me and at the next election find someone that would — that’s what elections are all about. We do not have to have filth shoved down our throats or such lewd businesses next door to our churches.

I appeal to the city fathers to listen to the grass-roots cry out there and in the name of decency and for our youth’s sake, take a stand that will make us proud of you. Richard A. Reynolds Swanville
