EAST MACHIAS – Washington Academy broke a 2-2 first-inning tie with a three-run second and Washington Academy notched a 7-5 baseball victory Saturday.
Brandon Ashby went 2-for-4 and hit a three-run home run in the third inning to lift the Raiders.
For the Knights of Harrington, pitcher Adam Meyer went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.

At Mount Desert Island, the Red Riots scored four runs in the third inning and three players hit home runs in Orono’s season opener Saturday.
Tom Perry hit a two-run homer in the first inning and finished the game with four RBIs. In the third, Jamie Broker and Tom Hite each slammed a two-run home run and Hite added one more RBI. Pitcher Stuart Cady held the Trojans to four hits.
MDI’s Chris Curran drove in a run and Jeremy Clark had a sacrifice fly for the second RBI.

At Blue Hill, Stearns of Millinocket pitcher Darren Daniels struck out eight batters and walked two to hold off the Eagles.
Tom Donato had a two-run single in the fourth and Stearns made it 4-0 in the fifth when Todd Folsom scored on a GSA fielding error. The Eagles battled back in the six, scoring two runs and landing the tying run at second with one out, but Daniels struck out the next batter and the third out came with a groundout by the third baseman.
Corey Streams added a single for Stearns. GSA’s Peter Collier had a double.

At East Machias, pitcher Laura Morse struck out 13 batters, walked two and held Washington Academy to two hits to get the win in Narraguagus of Harrington’s season opener.
Morse also had two doubles and two singles. April Wallace, Emily Froese and Melissa Hurlbert each added three hits.
WA’s Wanda Akoa tripled and Diana Bourdeau added a double to drive in both runs.

At Ellsworth, Kelli Griffiths hit a two-run double in the third inning to get a victory for the Eagles in their home-opener.
Lyndsy Patten pitched a one-hitter for Ellsworth. Patten and Rachel Smallidge each added two singles.
Foxcroft Academy’s Laurie Lavoie got the Ponies’ lone hit in the seventh.

At Mount Desert Island Saturday, Sabrina Gifford and Kaitlin Abbott each had two hits in the Trojans’ home opener.
Laine Ballard had a double and a single for Orono. MDI pitcher Emmy Renault and Orono’s Jessica Libby issued seven and 15 walks, respectively.
