Braves take two from Owls

BANGOR – The Husson Braves swept the University of Maine-Presque Isle 11-4 and 9-1 in a college baseball doubleheader Wednesday at Husson College.

In the first game, James Zukowski pitched the complete game for Husson going seven innings allowing two hits and four runs while striking out 10.

John Montgomery hit an RBI single and Jason Cyr had a two-run double to highlight an eight-run fifth inning for Husson.

Cyr finished the game with two hits and three RBIs and Aaron Largay had two singles and an RBI.

David Hamel hit a two-run single in the fifth inning for the Owls.

In the second game, Largay provided leadership with three singles and three RBIs. Roy Peary added a solo homer and a run-scoring single while Dan Curtis finished with two singles and an RBI.

Jeff Michaud paced the University of Maine-Presque Isle with two singles.

Husson takes two

At Presque Isle, Husson swept UMPI behind strong pitching and consistent hitting.

In the first game, Kelly Dow pitched five innings of one-hit ball to give Husson an 11-0 victory.

Emily Walker had a double and two RBIs, Amy Coppola had a triple to lead Husson while six other players had singles.

Marcy Burr had a bunt single in the fourth for UMPI.

In the second game, Dawn Doucette had a single, double, and four RBIs to pace Husson while Amy Coppola, Kelly Dow, and Angie Brawn each had a single and an RBI.

Sami Hibbard picked up the win, striking out four and giving up seven hits.

Erin Soucy led UMPI with two singles, while Erin Klentzman roped two doubles.

UMF sweeps Thomas

At Waterville, the University of Maine-Farmington softball team took two games from Thomas by the scores of 4-0 and 12-1.

In the first game, Denelle Surman shutout the Terriers over seven innings allowing only three hits to pick up the victory.

Crystal Hulit, Heather Wyman and Stacy Pinkham each had an RBI to lead the Beavers.

In the second game, Stacy Pickinson bettered Surman’s earlier pitching performance by holding Thomas to two hits over seven innings to record the Beaver’s second win of the afternoon.

Marybeth Sweetser drove in three runs to lead the University of Maine-Farmington and Jessica Porter added two RBIs.
