PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine-Farmington rolled up 38 runs in two games as it took a college baseball doubleheader from UM-Presque Isle Tuesday.
In the first game, the Beavers scored in every inning to take a 21-11 win. UMF cruised to a 17-0 verdict in the nightcap.
Brett Chase homered and singled for the Beavers. Darren Meader doubled twice and drove in a run. Nick Potts hit two singles and a triple while Eric Dellinger had two singles and two RBI.
Josh Morse led the Owls with four singles and four stolen bases. Jake Gentle doubled and ripped two singles to drive in two. David Hamel hit three singles and drove in two runs.
In game two, Meader allowed only three hits and struck out six to lead UM-Farmington.
Meader tripled and singled to aid his own cause for the Beavers. Chris Howe went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Brian Cox hit two singles and cracked a home run, driving in three runs. Dellinger ripped two singles.
Hamel, Gentle, and Andrew Feeney had a single each for Presque Isle.

Thomas sweeps UMPI
At Presque Isle Monday, the Terriers took a step toward a spot in this weekend’s Maine Athletic Conference Tournament, posting a doubleheader sweep over UMPI.
Thomas won the opener 16-1 and took the nightcap 14-8.
In the first game, Chad Boyd pitched a four-hitter, striking out 10 and walking five in a game shortened by the 10-run rule. Boyd helped his cause with a two-run home run, while Don Couture and Troy Joslyn each doubled and singled.
Jeff Michaud doubled and Jake Gentle stroked an RBI single for the Owls.
In the second game, Boyd earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Geoff Burnham hit a two-run home run in the second and a solo shot in the sixth for Thomas.
Matt Ferreira, Joslyn, and Boyd had a double and a single apiece, while Mike White and Couture each had two singles.
David Hamel slapped three singles for UMPI, while Josh Morse and Tony Mollison added two singles each. Gentle’s three-run triple in the fourth had tied the game 8-8.

UNE sweeps UMPI
At Biddeford Monday, the University of New England swept a pair of Maine Athletic Conference games against the University of Maine-Presque Isle.
In the first game, Jess Laney doubled, homered, and drove in three runs for UNE, while Erin Murphy scattered four hits in the game, which was shortened to 4 1/2 innings due to the mercy rule.
In the second game, Amanda Stevens and Kim Tudor had three hits each for the Nor’easters, while Karla Roy added a home run and single.
Michelle Young finished with three hits for the Owls.
