Happy 10th anniversary to WERU. Of the many pleasures Mainers enjoy, having a radio station of WERU’s caliber on the air 24 hours a day of commercial-free programming ranks up there with salt air, church suppers and yard sales. And it’s staffed by volunteers.
I recently drove fromn Miami to Calais with the radio as my only companion. I was able to find a few stations in those 2,300 miles that had a unique, personal sound. But I grew increasingly frustrated with the generic, commercial offerings that saturate the airwaves.
It was a breath of fresh air when I came in range of WERU’s signal. And with the transmitter in Bangor and perhaps others in the future, I can look forward to being able to avail myself of the station’s signal way Down East. Michael P. Mehr Jr. Charlotte
