WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Eastern Connecticut was declared the Little East baseball champ Sunday after the Southern Maine-Plymouth State game was canceled due to rain.
The winner was to advance to the title round vs. Eastern Connecticut.
UMS and Plymouth attempted to play on Saturday, but just two batters got to the plate. On Sunday, with the score tied at four after three innings, rain returned and ended play. Tournament officials declared the Warriors the champions after a lengthy delay.
The Huskies won their opening tourney game Thursday, 12-0 over Rhode Island College, lost to Plymouth State 3-2 on Friday and thrashed RIC again 12-0 Saturday to set up a rematch with Plymouth State.
