FORT KENT — The University of Maine at Fort Kent will hold a free summer reading camp 9-11 a.m. June 15-July 2 at varying locations throughout the St. John Valley. Named the Bookworm Club, the reading camp is designed to promote literacy in children in pre-kindergarten through third grade. The themes change daily, so children are able to attend at any time.
Each day will feature a large group book reading, an excursion or experience related to the theme, snack time and a small group story reading with hands-on activities.
The weeks of June 15-19 and June 22-26 the club will meet at the UMFK Sportscenter; June 29-30 it will meet at the elementary school in Madawaska; and July 1-2 it will meet at the Gateway Elementary School in Van Buren. Pre-registration is encouraged, but not mandatory. Children under age 4 must be accompanied by an adult.
