Yaeger, Michaud pace Presque Isle to win

PRESQUE ISLE – Jeff Yaeger hit a two-run homer and Chris Michaud smacked a three-run double, both in a nine-run sixth, to ignite No. 4 Presque Isle to a 16-6 victory over Old Town in an Eastern Maine Class A quarterfinal baseball contest on Thursday.

Michaud also singled and had five RBIs for Presque Isle. Yaeger added two singles and five RBIs. Ben Yaeger and Nick Nadeau each launched solo homers and Matt Allen singled and doubled for two RBIs.

Zach Gasaway singled and hit a fifth-inning two-run home run for No. 5 Old Town. Jason Sirois and Jamie Kennedy each singled twice.

At Augusta, Scott Brawn singled in Aaron Young and Josh Cushman in the bottom of the seventh to win the game for the No. 3 Rams.

David Dostie allowed just two hits and fanned six. B.L. Lippett singled in a run in the sixth for Cony. Brawn and Lippett each had singles. Young also hit two singles.

Andy Havener hit an RBI double for No. 6 Medomak Valley. Joe Kay also doubled.

At Ellsworth, Tony Garreans smacked an RBI triple in the third inning, then scored the game-winner on a Courtney Bunker groundout.

Ben Donaldson added an RBI single for the No. 3 Eagles. Ben Alley posted the win, holding the Minutemen in check after the first two batters of the game scored.

Josh Emerson rapped three singles and drove in a run for No. 6 Stearns of Millinocket, which lost despite outhitting the Eagles 10-4. Matt Montgomery and Jason Folsom stroked two singles each. Corey Streams struck out one and walked two in the four-hitter.

At Camden, Abe Dugal’s infield single scored Joah Peck in the bottom of the eighth, giving the No. 2 Windjammers the victory.

Dugal also had a fielder’s choice RBI in the sixth for Camden-Rockport.Kessler Horty drove in a run with a sacrifice bunt and Peck scored on a passed ball, both in the fourth inning. Jon Moro struck out nine for the win.

Mark Gunning allowed just three hits and struck out eight for No. 7 Winslow, also driving in two on three singles. Ian Mette singled three times and Chris Theriault hit two singles.

At Belfast, Josh Pooler scored the eventual game-winning run on a fielding error to help the No. 4 Lions advance.

Pooler singled and tripled in a run for Belfast. Ryan Maheux singled and doubled in a run, and Peter Klausmeyer hit a two-run homer in the first inning.

Mike Weston singled twice and had an RBI for No. 5 Houlton. Chris Britton singled three times and drove in one, and Joe Husted singled twice, driving in one.

At East Machias, Josh Ramsdell and Glen Wood slammed back-to-back home runs with two outs in the second inning to lead No. 2 Washington Academy to the quarterfinal win over No. 7 Hodgdon.

Brandon Ashby went 4-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs for the Raiders. Ramsdell had a single to go with his three-run homer. Mike Fergerson singled and doubled. Wood pitched three innings of scoreless relief, striking out five.

Jeremy Knowles drove in two runs with a single for Hodgdon.

At Guilford, Brody McKenney struck out 15 to lift the No. 3 Pirates past No. 6 Katahdin of Sherman Station.

Derrek Smith hit a two-run homer in the third and Ryan White added another two-run shot in the sixth. Smith and White added a single and a double, respectively. John Riitano doubled in a run and hit a single.

Jon Mooney led the Cougars with a double and a sacrifice fly. Randy Carver hit a double.

At Harrington, Alan Stanwood and Joe Haskell combined for a two-hitter and fanned seven, as the No. 1 Knights won in six innings, thanks to an 11-run third.

Stanwood singled twice and doubled for three RBIs for Narraguagus. Chad Berry tripled and singled. Curtis Haycock singled twice and had two RBIs.

Travis Bickford singled in a run for Sumner. Mike Hardy doubled.

Rodney Damon singled twice and doubled to drive in two runs for the Vikings. Hall doubled and singled for two RBIs. Justin Connor drove in a run with a double and single.

Nick Albert singled twice for Mattanawcook Academy.

At St. Agatha, Noah Michaud’s fielder’s choice in the bottom of the fourth inning scored Andy Soucy with the winning run as No. 2 Wisdom defeated No. 7 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Eric Soucy doubled and singled for Wisdom. Josh Roy ripped an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Jason Weed smashed a pair of solo home runs for the Mariners. Andy Bye added a solo shot.

At Dyer Brook, Van Buren took control of the game in the fourth inning, scoring three runs on one hit and three errors as the No. 5 Crusaders defeated No. 4 Southern Aroostook.

Phil Smith singled twice for Van Buren. Nate Marquis drove in a run with a double. Mike Sirois and Eric Ayotte each had one double.

Nick Russell smacked two doubles and a single for the Warriors. Gabe Gordon singled twice and drove in a run. Chris Webb, Sam Michaud and Nate Hardy combined to strike out 13 Crusader hitters.

At Fort Fairfield, Jason Cunningham pitched six strong innings, allowing two hits and striking out 10 to lead No. 3 Fort Fairfield.

Cunningham aided his own cause with a two-run single and a double for the Tigers. Peter Solomon doubled in a pair of runs and Brandon Traknis had a single and two RBIs.

Jon Codrey lined two singles for the No. 6 Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.
