Teen summoned after car rollover > Boy allegedly left crash scene at Acadia

ACADIA NATIONAL PARK — Rangers summoned a juvenile male from Bar Harbor Friday night accusing him of leaving the scene of a property damage accident and driving to endanger after the boy allegedly rolled over his father’s car in the visitors’ center parking lot.

The 16-year-old, whose name is being withheld because of his age, was not harmed, according to Ranger Jim Grover, who added that the boy’s seat belt probably saved him from serious injury.

The accident, which occurred around 8 p.m., is still being investigated, but park officials said alcohol was not a factor.

A pattern of tire tracks at the scene suggest the boy was driving over a grass island in the parking lot and lost control of his vehicle when he attempted to come off the island quickly, Grover said.

Although the youth fled from the crash site, he was quickly picked up by police on Route 3. The car, a late 1980s Ford Bronco, was towed away.

In an unrelated incident in the park Friday, more than a dozen rangers rescued a Pennsylvania woman from the summit of South Bubble mountain while she was suffering a stroke. Evelyn Caruso, 61, was carried out by the ranger team and rushed to Mount Desert Island Hospital, according to Ranger Sarah Wilson. A hospital spokeswoman said Caruso was in stable condition Sunday night.
