I write in regard to an incident that happened on June 26 at T12 R11 in the north Maine woods. Our ambulance responded to a motor vehicle accident with a vanload of migrant workers on their way to work. They had a flat tire and were involved in a rollover accident. Ten patients were treated and transported to area hospitals; it was a total mass casualty situation. Two died prior to our arrival.

After a few initial phone calls, we were amazed at the response time of pilot Dale Caldwell to our scene. We understand the process in getting a helicopter is quite involved. We truly believe that without his help and the support from Fraser Paper we would have had two more deaths. We appreciate all they did and do to support us. We only wish there were many others like them.

We would also like to thank Crown Ambulance, the surrounding hospitals and especially the members from the Ashland Ambulance Service who responded to the call. Without everyone’s help this call would not have gone as smoothly as it did. Pat Long Director of services Ashland Ambulance Service
