GORHAM – Bryan Hawkes’ two-out RBI single in the ninth inning Sunday earned Worcester Peat a 6-5 victory and a split of a Portland Twilight League doubleheader against Baseball Connection of Portsmouth, N.H.
Baseball Connection won the opener 5-1 at the University of Southern Maine field.
In the first game, Tim Hopley, Zach Gagnan, and Seth Warner each hit two singles and drove in one run for Baseball Connection. Sherman Chester gave up three hits and no runs.
Worcester Peat’s Aaron Largay singled twice and had the lone RBI.
In the nightcap, Hawkes’ single drove in Marc Halsted with the game-winning run. Halsted singled three times and drove in a run. Hawkes singled and doubled and stole two bases.
Mike Hannan led Baseball Connection with a double and triple.
