CASTINE — The historic town common will be the site of “A Festival of the Arts in Castine” 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 18, where a variety of art events and exhibitions will be held on the Village Green and surrounding buildings.
Festival attractions will include an exhibit by Castine artists, which opened July 4 in Emerson Hall; demonstrations by local artisans of weaving, quilting and flower arranging; an exhibit of textiles and needlework in the Witherle Memorial Library; and a children’s art show at the Adams School.
Outdoor performances of storytelling and folk music will be held on the Green during the afternoon. Evening events will include a program of readings from writers about Castine and Castine authors, past and present. The festival’s finale will be a musical program of choral and instrumental music performed by Castine musicians. Original works created for the festival include a banner and songs inspired by a Castine poet. There will be a picnic supper sponsored by the Castine Co-op and prepared by Mainstay Pasta.
