CALAIS – David Utterback’s two-run home run ignited a four-run first inning for Bangor as the Comrades clinched a Zone 1 American Legion baseball playoff spot with a 6-3 win over Calais on Tuesday.

Jeremy Karam doubled in a run in the third inning for Bangor. Josh Hiatt pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits. Tom Carey and Nate Waring each had one double.

Josh Thornton hit a pair of singles for Calais.

At Skowhegan, Josh Sadlier’s RBI single in the sixth gave the Acadians the winning edge. Sadlier’s single plated Toby Cote, who walked and advanced to second on John Lewandowski’s single.

Mike Cowperthwaite pitched six solid innings to earn the win and Matt McFarland notched the save. Adam Meyer chipped in with an RBI single.

Russ Peters doubled and singled for Skowhegan and Jesse Lacasse singled twice.
