BREWER – A team from Salem, N.H., compiled a 36-4 record to capture the ninth Ladies International Candlepin Bowling Tourney at the Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes over the weekend.

A bowler from the Greater Bangor area, Judy Bowden of the Lewis Used Cars team in Bangor, compiled the tourney’s best average with 115.20 pinfall per string.

Alley Kats of Medford, Mass., totaled a 34-6 record to finish second in the tourney with a southern Maine team, Maine Magic, compiled a 30-10 mark to place third.

A total of 21 teams competed in the round robin tourney with each team bowling one string against the other 20 teams.

Joanne Ruzzano paced Park Place with a total of 2,284 pinfall in 20 strings for a 114 average. Teammates Deb Desrocher and Peg Tosi each compiled an average of 112 with Desrocher totaling 2,245 pins for 20 strings and Tosi 2,021 for 18 strings. Other members of the winning team were Beth Richards, Joanne Vandiver, and Glennis Hickey.

Karen Matero and Betty Snowman paced Maine Magic’s strong third-place finish as they each notched an average of 106 in 20 strings with Snowman knocking down 2,131 pins and Matero hitting 2,121.

Also contributing for Maine Magic were Sharon Nealey (105, 2 Also contributing for Maine Magic were Sharon Nealey (105, 20 strings) and Val Joy (110, 13). Other teammates included Andrea Powers (96, 20) and Kim Fogg (95, 7).

Kim Trask of Vactionland Lanes in Saco turned in the high string of the tourney with a 172 and Park Place Lanes totaled 614 for the best team string.

Kim Crawford of the New Brunswick Challengers won the singles knockout.

Six teams from Maine, six from Massachusetts, three from New Hampshire and six from Canada competed for a pool of $10,000 with first-place Park Place collecting approximately $3,000.
