Two of four engines fail Saturday on The Cat

BAR HARBOR — Engine troubles plagued The Cat on Saturday, slowing the otherwise speedy ferry operating between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, to a crawl.

According to the Bar Harbor Harbor Master’s Office, two of the ship’s four engines gave out on the return voyage from Nova Scotia on Saturday night. Limping home on the two remaining engines, The Cat returned to its Bar Harbor port around 3 a.m. Sunday. Officials said the engine problems were solved and the ferry was running smoothly and on time again Sunday night.

Officials from Bay Ferries Limited, the company that operates The Cat, could not be reached for comment Sunday.
