Oilers sign former Maine center Ferraro

Edmonton, Alberta – The Edmonton Oilers signed center Chris Ferraro and right wing Adam Copeland, the team said.

Ferraro, 26, had three goals and four assists in 46 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. He scored five goals and recorded five assists in 60 games with the Penguins and New York Rangers over parts of the past three seasons.

Ferraro was a fourth-round selection of the Rangers in the 1992 National Hockey League entry draft, three rounds after twin brother, Peter, was picked by New York. The twins stayed in the Rangers organization until the beginning of last season, when Pittsburgh claimed them on waivers.

They had always played on the same team together until January, when the Rangers claimed Peter off waivers. He signed a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins on July 21.

Terms of the contracts weren’t disclosed.
