YONKERS, N.Y. – Ted Wing became the 27th harness driver to win 5,000 career races Monday night when he guided Pappy’s Folly to victory at Yonkers Raceway.

Wing moved Pappy’s Folly to the lead before the half-mile pole in the nightcap and the 3-year-old pacing filly went on to a five-length win in a lifetime-best 1 minute, 59 seconds.

Pappy’s Folly returned $18 in winning her second straight race and sixth of the season.

Wing, 50, a native of Greenville, Me., drove his first race at the Farmington Fair in Maine in 1964 and had his first winner, Shermar Nancy, at the Skowhegan Fair in Maine the following year.

“I’ve been very lucky to make a living at something I’ve always enjoyed,” Wing said. “I still enjoy the competition and I look forward to many more victories.”

Wing, a leading driver in New England, New Jersey, Maryland and New York during his career, has earned more than $31 million in purse money.
