Clinton Lions Club Fair slated for Sept. 10-13

CLINTON — The 45th edition of the Clinton Lions Club Fair opens at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in Clinton. It will run for four days, Sept. 10-13, and will feature several stage shows each day. Other events include agricultural displays, pulling contests in two arenas, craft sales, and vendors and foods of all types.

All entertainment is free of charge. Gate admission is $2 each (children 12 and under are free) and $5 per carload including parking.

Thursday is Children’s Night and features a “ride all evening bracelet” for only $6, good for all ages.

Featured events include: Tickles the Clown; martial arts demo, 6:30 p.m.; horse pulling (1 1/2 rock class); all-terrain vehicle pulling; street class pickup pulling; and Touch of Country music group, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.

Friday is Senior Citizens Day and begins at 2 p.m. Entry prices are $3 per carload including parking. Ride ticket booklets will be reduced in price when the grandparent accompanies the grandchild.

Featured events include: Allan “Mac” McHale and the Old-Time Radio Gang, 3 p.m., 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.; pulling contests — ponies and tractor; pig scramble for two groups, 5- to 7-year-old children and 8- to 10-year-old children, 7 p.m — signup Thursday and Friday until 6 p.m.; The Smokin’ Can Band for children, 8 p.m. in horse show ring; and fireworks at dusk.

Saturday starts with a “Cartoons on Parade” street parade at 10 a.m. Featured events include: blueberry pie contest; sheep shearing and 4-H working steer; farm animal and rabbit demonstrations; ox scooting contest; pulling contests — ponies, pickups and farm tractors; skydivers at 2:30 p.m.; show tent events; and Maine State Police canine demonstration.

Sunday events starts at 9 a.m. with a horse show and an nondenominational church service by Rev. Susan Davenport. Other events include: pulling contests; Oakhurst baby show at 12:30 p.m. in show tent; Morris’ Balloon Zoo Super Show, 1 p.m.; baby show, 2 p.m.; and dance review, 3 p.m.

The fair is the Clinton Lions Club’s major fund-raising event of the year. Much of the profits earned are used by the Lions Club for use in community service activities for youth, the elderly and the needy. Carnival rides and games will be furnished by L.M.C. Amusements of Wilmington, Mass.
