YARMOUTH — Map publisher DeLorme has been included in PC Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential companies in the computer industry. The list, appearing in the Sept. 22 issue of PC Magazine, features such industry giants as Microsoft, Intel and IBM.
“We consider this recognition a huge achievement,” said DeLorme’s vice president of sales and marketing, Dave Eshelman. “For the second year in a row, we are the only Maine-based company on the list, and we are also the only company specializing in mapping products to be included.”
Compiled by PC Magazine’s editorial staff, the list rates companies on such criteria as annual revenue, market share, market influence and industry leadership. DeLorme’s inclusion marks its second appearance on the list in as many years. Software products such as Street Atlas USA and AAA Map ‘n’ Go were touted along with the DeLorme GPS Receiver as main factors in the editors’ decision.
With a circulation of 1,153,952, PC Magazine is considered the leading magazine for the computer industry.
DeLorme is America’s leading mapping software publisher, serving the consumer and business markets. DeLorme CD-ROM titles include Street Atlas USA 5.0, AAA Map ‘n’ Go 4.0, DeLorme Topo USA and Phone Search USA. The company also produces Earthmate, a high-performance GPS receiver, and the Atlas and Gazetteer Series — recreational atlases for 42 states, with additional states coming soon.
