Brandt, Davis lead Colby to victory

FARMINGTON – Liz Brandt scored a goal and added an assist to lift the Colby White Mules to a 3-2 field hockey victory over the University of Maine-Farmington Wednesday.

Brandt assisted on Kara Hubbard’s goal. Becca Bruce had the assist on Brandt’s score and Jesse Davis added another goal with a pass from Marsha Ingraham. Goalies Jan Stevens and Carrie Torrisi combined for four saves on Hanah Seames scored unassisted for the Beavers. Katie Brenier notched a goal with an assist from Nicole Dionne and Erin Sylvia stopped seven of 36 shots she faced.

Men’s soccer

Southern Maine 6, Thomas 1

At Waterville, Steve Graitzky scored the first of five Southern Maine goals in the second half as the Huskies cruised.

Jim Hopkins scored off an assist from Jesse Stetler for the game’s first goal. Adam Marquis recorded a goal off a pass from Andy Higgins. Chris Hughes assisted on Marc Herrick’s goal and Herrick assisted on Jamie Everhart’s score. Hughes added a goal off a pass from Josh Johnson. Corey Fleming and Drew Mazzeo combined for three saves on four shots for 4-2 Southern Maine.

Jahma Charles had an unassisted goal for 0-5-1 Thomas College. Daniel Funk stopped nine of the 19 shots he faced.

Women’s soccer

Dartmouth 1, Maine 0

At Hanover, N.H., Lindsey Bergren’s goal at the 83:10 mark of the game broke a 0-0 tie to lift the 15th-ranked Big Green past the Maine Black Bears.

Jen Murray assisted on Bergren’s goal for 3-1-1 Dartmouth. UMaine didn’t make any shots on goal, leading to a light day for Dartmouth goalie Kristin Luckenbill.

Mandy Cronin stopped five of the 10 shots she faced for Maine, which is now 1-3-1.

Colby 7, UM-Farmington 0

At Waterville, Stephanie Zegras recorded two goals and an assist as Colby rolled.

Elizabeth Rice notched two goals. Kara Schiebel and Kimberly Waldron each scored a goal and an assist. Caitlin Skulley added a goal and Kelly Bregou, Carolyn Szum and Anne Hottle each had assists. Heather Garni started in goal for the White Mules, but the Beavers didn’t have any shots.

UM-Farmington goalie Pam Goyette made 14 saves on 41 shots.
