Soccer bores

Tom Weber’s insightful column [BDN, Sept. 26-27] on soccer bores strikes some responsive chords in that these individuals appear to share a cluster of traits:

1. They know just enough about the sport to be “dangerous.”

2. They usually lack the “curriculum vitae” to coach the sport.

3. They’re too lazy to coach the sport or make any positive contribution.

4. They think that by putting down the athletes and coaches, they are building up themselves.

5. They’re trying to impress others in attendance with their “knowledge” of the game.

6. They have a higher-paying job than the coaches and-or officials and lack inhibitions about what they say. William R. Sawtell Brownville
