Weston powers Houlton Shiretowners hand Madawaska first loss in last game

HOULTON – Mike Weston scored twice to lead the Houlton Shiretowners to a 3-1 victory over previously unbeaten Madawaska in schoolboy soccer action Friday.

Weston scored off assists from Willie Sleeper and Peter Bates. Sleeper scored the third goal for 7-3-4 Houlton off a Ben Straubel assist. James Skehan made 15 saves on 22 shots.

Ben Marshall scored off a pass from Matt Pennington as Madawaska lost its first game of the season to fall to 12-1-1. Andrew Clavette had 10 saves on 22 shots.

Wisdom 8, Central Aroostook 3

At Mars Hill, Joey Soucy and Josh Roy each scored three goals as Wisdom of St. Agatha cruised.

Chad Gervais and Ryan Paradis each scored, and Rick Sirois made nine saves on 18 shots for 10-4 Wisdom.

Mark Walsh netted two goals and Jordan Codrey added another for 1-12-1 Central Aroostook. Jesse Sargent and Andy Grivois combined to stop 13 of 35 shots.

Narraguagus 2, Machias 0

At Harrington, John Look scored on a header off a corner kick from Matt Pounder 4:06 into the game to spark the Knights.

Zach Gage-Croll added an insurance goal later in the first half. Goalkeeper Bruce Hall made six saves on 10 shots for the 10-2 Knights.

Kevin Loughlin saved seven of 14 shots for the 8-4-2 Bulldogs.

JV: Narraguagus 0, Machias 0

Woodland 2, Lubec 1 (OT)

At Woodland, Bob Chandler kicked in the game-winning goal off the right post with 45 seconds left in overtime.

Frankie Morrison tied the game at 1-1 on a direct kick for 7-6-1 Woodland. Marlon Lutz turned away six of 11 shots.

Aaron Rogers scored off a pass from Chris Newman and John Moores made 16 saves on 22 shots for 0-12-1 Lubec.

Sumner 4, Central 1

At East Corinth, Lautaro Ricci scored two goals and dished out an assist to lead Sumner of East Sullivan.

Brian Duke scored a goal and Matt Welch added a goal and an assist for 7-7 Sumner. Ben Hubbar made three saves on five shots.

Matt Coszerow scored for 9-4-1 Central, and James Nickerson turned away 11 of 17 shots.

Searsport 2, Lee 1

At Searsport, Joey Light scored a pair of first-half goals, both set up by Pasco Grove, as the Vikings improved to 12-1 entering a Saturday game against Bangor Christian.

Nate Hall made 14 saves on 15 shots, including a penalty kick save, for the winners.

Dustin Pickering converted a Chris Carr pass for 11-3 Lee, and goalie Travis Jacobs made 13 saves on 16 shots.

MDI 1, Foxcroft 0

At Foxcroft, Tyler Jones scored on a penalty kick to propel Mount Desert Island to victory.

Mike Garrity made five saves on 30 shots for 9-4-1 Mount Desert Island.

Mike Grant stopped nine of 16 shots for 7-5-2 Foxcroft.

Girls soccer

Calais 4, Woodland 0

At Calais, sisters Elizabeth and Katie Churchill paced the Blue Devils.

Elizabeth Churchill scored two goals and Katie Churchill added one goal and an assist. Tricia Farrell also had a goal and an assist. Rachael Clark stopped four of the five shots she faced for 10-4 Calais.

Goalie Jen Boston made 16 saves on 22 shots for the 6-4 Dragons.

JV: Calais 3, Woodland 0

Houlton 2, Madawaska 0

At Madawaska, Kelly Socoby scored off a Jessica Webber assist and Becky Goodall added a goal off a Kate Wilson pass to propel Houlton to victory.

Jessica Prosser made 10 saves on 14 shots for the 8-2-4 Shiretowners.

Steph Gagnon turned away 10 of 12 shots for 9-4-1 Madawaska.

Wisdom 2, Central Aroostook 1

At Mars Hill, Nina Michaud netted the game-winner on a direct kick with 12 minutes left in the game.

Shana Soucy headed in the first goal for the 9-5 Pioneers of St. Agatha off an assist from Lisa Ouellette. Jen Derosier made three saves on four shots.

Lyndsay Boyd scored off a Lacey Bell pass and Darcy Walsh made 12 saves on 14 shots for 4-10 Central Aroostook.

Hampden 3, Nokomis 0

At Hampden, Teresa Leyro had a pair of goals and Lindsey Dilts picked up a pair of assists as Hampden finished its regular season at 10-2-2.

Annie Fitzpatrick had the other Hampden goal and goalie Sarah Fraunhofer stopped the one shot she faced.

Marcie Raymond stopped nine of 22 shots for 1-11-2 Nokomis.

Hermon 2, Penobscot Valley 1

At Hermon, Brandy Rowe netted the game-winning goal off a pass from Alicia Deluck with 4:30 remaining in the contest.

Miranda Robbinson scored the first goal of the game off a Rowe assist for 2-9-3 Hermon. Carol-Ann Hewes made 10 saves on 14 shots.

Alicia Prost scored on a Jessica Curtis assist while Carrie Bradley made four saves on six shots for 11-2-1 Penobscot Valley of Howland.

George Stevens 3, Ellsworth 2

At Ellsworth, Sorcha Merrill’s second goal of the game was the winner, a slow roller from 16 yards out that got past Ellsworth goalie Bekah Metzler.

Merrill scored unassisted with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. Sarah Haney had a goal and assist for 6-6-2 GSA. Dawn Robertson made 10 saves on 25 shots.

Becky Lock led 10-2-2 Ellsworth with a goal and assist, with Cathy Dill also registering a goal. Metzler had eight saves on 12 shots.
