Bowdoin defense corrals Colby for CBB title

WATERVILLE – Chandler Perine had a 66-yard interception return for a touchdown to give Bowdoin College a 10-7 football victory over Colby and the CBB Championship.

Colby quarterback Nate Bradley’s pass sailed through the hands of receiver Miguel Gonzalez and into Perine’s hands at 9:08 in the first quarter. He ran up the right sideline for the Polar Bears’ only touchdown of the day.

Bowdoin (5-3) added to its lead with 11:52 left in the second quarter when Alex Tatum capped off a 73-yard drive with a 30-yard field goal.

Colby (2-6) got on the board at 5:25 in the third quarter with a two-yard touchdown run by Thomas Keblin.

Colby took the ball inside Bowdoin’s 40-yard line on each of its next three possessions, but the Polar Bears’ defense held them off.

Hamilton 24, Bates 17

At Lewiston, Robbie Peters threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns to help Hamilton snap a seven-game losing streak by beating Bates.

Cory Malnikof’s 3-yard touchdown plunge just over a minute into the fourth quarter put Hamilton (1-7) ahead, 24-10. Bates (1-7) pulled to within seven on a 12-yard touchdown run by Ryan Jarvis with less than four minutes left in the game.

The game was tied 10-10 at half time, after Bates’ Matt Bazirgan threw a 68-yard touchdown pass to Brian Mulready.

Peters made it 17-10 in the third with a 22-yard pass to Kelly Valenti with 5:50 remaining.

At Framingham, Mass., Steve Tardif ran for 253 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead Maine Maritime over Framingham State.

Tardif’s last touchdown with 3:48 remaining in the fourth quarter was the game-winner. He ran up the middle, bounced off a linebacker and sprinted 28 yards to the end zone.

Rob Dower caught 10 passes for Framingham (2-8) including one for a 20-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

The win gave the Mariners (5-5) a share of the New England Football Conference Red Division title with Bridgewater State.

At Bangor on Saturday, Will McFarlane scored 27 points to led St. Thomas Aquinas of Sparkill, N.Y., past Husson.

Antonio Simmons chipped in with 15 points and Shawn Higgins added eight.

Chris Funk led the Braves with 14 points and Nikos Sompatzis chipped in with nine.
