Column out of touch

Evan Michaud (Letter, BDN, Nov. 4) hit the nail on the head. Russ Quaglia and Doug Hall’s ludicrously out of touch column on “Dumb Dad Syndrome” (Oct. 26) made me laugh out loud, mostly at the Bangor Daily News and the syndicator of their column. Did they do any research on these two before annointing them as parenting gurus? No one who has parented full-time in the ’90s could be as clueless as they are as to the absolute necessity of taking responsibility.

Now they come along with their ideas to keep kids away from drugs … aspirations! Boy, what were the rest of us thinking? All we had to do was give our young people higher aspirations and they would never get into any trouble. Drug counselors, teachers, administrators, parents, police — stop what you are doing and give out trophies. That’s the sure way to end the problems faced by the youth of America. Apparently, giving children awar One has to wonder how much time these two model fathers actually spend with their kids; it can’t possibly be much. Then you ought to find the mothers of the children and nominate them for sainthood. Why doesn’t the BDN do us all a service and find out if “The Two Dads” even have children at home. If they do, would you please encourage them to spend more time with their kids and less on cranking out their embarrassingly silly nonsense? Ellen Small Bangor
