I was privileged to run for the Maine Senate in the recent election, and I would like to thank the many individuals who helped on my campaign.

Running for office allowed me to analyze many issues affecting our state. We continue to hear about the Two Maines and the perception that there is unevenness in power at the legislative level involving decisions related to our part of the state.

One way we could help ourselves is for the current legislators in eastern and central Maine to band together, identify and agree on a bipartisan basis on one or two major issues that are of crucial importance to our well-being such as the east-west highway or research and development. The task would be to work with total resolve as a group to advance policies and enact legislation supportive of these issues.

I do understand the nature of partisan politics, but believe a concerted, unified effort from the “other Maine” could go a long way in leveling the economic playing field. I certainly pledge to support our current legislators in their efforts to work toward long-term changes for Maine.

Thank you again, citizens of Bangor and Veazie. Anne E. Pooler Bangor
