DANFORTH – Sarah Carter connected on a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining in overtime to give the Machias Bulldogs a 44-43 schoolgirl basketball win over the East Grand Vikings in the mutual opener Friday night.

Kristi Schors scored six of her game-high 15 points in the overtime for Machias. Geneviene Rogers added 12 points and Carter finished with 11 points.

Lindsay Faulkner had 14 points for the Vikings and Tracey Brackett chipped in 13 points.

At Lubec, Kristen Sawyer led the way as 12 Raiders scored points in Washington Academy’s win.

Sawyer had 17 points and Rainya Ham connected for 14 in a balanced Raiders attack that included five more players scoring at least seven points in the game.
