AUGUSTA — In an effort to better serve taxpayers, the public is being given access to both Internal Revenue Service and Maine Revenue Services offices at one site. This marks the first time this has been accomplished in the country.

The adjoining federal-state tax offices are located on the third floor of the Muskie Federal Building, 68 Sewall St., Augusta. Both IRS and MRS offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturday service is available through April 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“This novel approach to tax administration allows the public to visit just one site to receive help with federal and state tax matters,” said IRS District Director Steve Daige. “Making things easier for our customers was a goal shared by both tax agencies.”

The executive director for MRS, Anthony J. Neves, added, “This walk-in office not only handles the usual wide array of taxpayer services, but also serves as a central registration site for all taxes that a new business might encounter. This is another area where the one-stop concept was applied.”
