Baldacci named to committees

BANGOR — U.S. Rep. John Baldacci has been selected to serve on the House Agriculture Committee and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure during the 106th Congress.

As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, the 2nd District representative will serve on the General Farm Commodities, Resource Conservation and Credit Subcommittee. This panel oversees programs and policies of the Department of Agriculture, including agricultural credit, rural development, farm security and family farming matters.

Baldacci also has been selected to serve on the Risk Management, Specialty Crops and Research Subcommittee. This panel of the House Agriculture Committee has authority over issues such as commodity futures and crop insurance, as well as agriculture research and education.

As a member of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, Baldacci will serve on the Aviation Subcommittee. This panel has jurisdiction over Federal Aviation Administration and general aviation matters. This year, it will focus on reauthorization and reform of the FAA and the Aviation Trust Fund. The Aviation Subcommittee will handle issues pertaining to competition problems between large airlines and smaller, low-cost carriers.

Finally, Baldacci has been selected to serve on the Transportation Committee’s Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee. It is involved in issues related to the Army Corps of Engineers, hydroelectric power, wetlands protection, water pollution, the Superfund and the Clean Air Act.
