Bapst rally overcomes Hampden

BANGOR – Stephanie Sockbeson scored eight of her 11 points in the third quarter and Heather Evans contributed six or her 11 as John Bapst outscored Hampden 19-2 to erase a seven-point halftime deficit and post a 43-36 win over Hampden Academy at the Bangor Auditorium Monday.

Meaghan Young had a game-high 15 points for the winners with Evans and Sockbeson chipping in with their 11 apiece.

Jamie Wells’ 10 points led Hampden and Megan Magoon added seven.

Boys basketball

John Bapst 62, Nokomis 49

At the Bangor Auditorium, brothers Tim and Mike Mathien scored 19 and 16 points, respectively, to power John Bapst past Nokomis.

Mike Mathien had six of his points in the first period as John Bapst raced out to an 18-6 lead it never relinquished.

Richie Otis had a game-high 21 points for Nokomis with Shawn Henderson and Eric Driscoll registering 12 apiece.

At Bangor’s Sawyer Arena, linemates Lee Miller and Scott Tardif each registered two goals and an assist as Hampden improved to 10-7-1 by extending its unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1).

Matt Caldwell had the other Bronco goal with Noah Peet, Shane Achey and Chad Trudel notching assists. Goalie Brian Cataldo made 23 saves.

Garrett Hayman scored for Old Town with Balakw Cleary and Kevin Gallant collecting assists. Jason Karam made 22 saves for the 5-12 Indians.

Skowhegan 9, Kents Hill 1

At Skowhegan Ice Arena, the Indians got five goals and an assist from Ben Daigle as they topped the Huskies.

Aaron Hughes added two goals for 2-12 Skowhegan. Matt Otis and Scott Holmes tallied one each and Josh Turner handed out two assists. Nate Downing made 17 saves on 18 shots.

Tyler Hawkins scored the lone goal for 2-13 Kents Hill. Aaron Merrill made 37 stops on 46 shots.
