Bill Clinton started this problem and has continued the problem by using his friends and family by telling them stories (lies) to protect his behind. Kenneth Starr, the Congress and now the Senate have had to wade through all of his stories (lies) and manipulations (obstructions) to see if this man will lie and obstruct to us the people as well as the people of the world. When he was shaking his finger at me from the TV, I felt the law of this country was going to be tested. Anyone who has raised children knows when they see that action, they have got to put their foot down.
Clinton will not be jailed, if [convicted], and will go on to build a rich life, but the laws of this land will, and have, crumbled to the point I wonder if there is no return.
This country was built on its laws and faith which means trust in my neighborhood and family. I am not the religious anything so don’t swing that one at me. I just believe in my fellow humans who have built this country back up, in spite of our politicians and Clinton. Elizabeth Ellis Sebec
It is no wonder our president was able to continue a pattern of denial in his private life. He is surrounded by smiling sycophants — people who stand around a person in power and offer no protocol or principled guidance for the powerful.
But something more sinister has surfaced with the denials of both Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott and Rep. Bob Barr. They supported and spoke at functions of the Council of Conservative Citizens. They are both public figures, and their recent behavior, one could argue, is a crime against the state. The CCC is a racist, white supremist organization whose prototypes, under different names since Reconstruction, invoked bigotry, comtempt and the dehumanization of American citizens. Lott and Barr should be well aware they are involved with a supremacist organization. Greg Gilka Machias
It’s time for the voters of Maine to rethink whether Susan M. Collins represents them in the Senate. The people of Maine overwhelmingly oppose the impeachment of the president. Collins has helped to extend this matter into the second week of February with a series of naive and unrealistic proposals that can best be seen as personal grandstanding before the national and international media. Let’s do Ms. Collins a favor by sending her home to Caribou when she runs for re-election. Marshall T. Cary Bangor
Is it not ironic that as a concerned citizen, Richard Llamas speaks his, or may I dare say the majority of the U.S. citizens’, minds (BDN, Feb. 5) and is arrested and charged with “disruption of Congress”?
“God almighty, take a vote and get it over with!,” he exclaimed. This seems to be the feelings of an overwhelming majority of taxpayers.
The ones who deserve legal scrutiny are the ones, we the people, voted into office to work for us. These demigods are not listenening to those whom they work for. They should be charged with “disruption of the welfare of U.S. citizens.” Richard Small Ellsworth
