Valley rolls to final> Cavs to face NYA Saturday

AUGUSTA – Chris Willer scored six of Valley’s 15 points in the fourth quarter as the No. 2 Cavaliers defeated No. 6 Hyde 51-46 in a Western Maine Class D boys basketball semifinal at the Augusta Civic Center Wednesday.

Valley of Bingham advances to play North Yarmouth Academy in the Western Maine Class D final on Saturday.

Willer finished with 20 points for the Cavaliers of Bingham. Jason Hartwell added 14 points.

Jeff Biggs scored 11 points to lead Hyde of Bath and Charles Moore netted 10.

North Yarmouth 61, Islesboro 55

At Augusta Civic Center, top-ranked North Yarmouth Academy overcame a 10-point halftime defecit by outscoring Islesboro 19-8 in the third period to advance to the Western Maine Class D championship game.

The Panthers will take on No. 2 Valley of Bingham in Saturday’s final.

Tyler Smith led the Panthers with 28 points. Parker Adams added 14 points and Conor Welch chipped in with 10.

Travis Tatro paced the No. 4 Eagles with 21 points. Ben Dove and Derek Johnson added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

At Morse, on Tuesday, Bangor outscored the Shipbuilers 23-9 in the first quarter en route to the victory.

Alison Smith topped the Rams with 20 points and Jlynn Frazier netted 16. Kara Crockett tallied 11 points for the winners and Terra Curtis added 10.

Katie Stailing paced Morse of Bath with 22 points. Crystal Stillwell contributed 14.

At Augusta Civic Center, Noel Bealle scored 10 points in the second quarter as the top-seeded Rams came from behind and outscored Lake Region 22-11 to take the win.

Gorham will play third-seeded Scarborough in Friday’s 7:05 p.m. final in Augusta.

Bealle and Carla Flaherty each notched 19 points for Gorham.

Katie Simpson tallied 13 points for the No. 4 Lakers of Bridgton while Dana Wheeler added 11.
