Sherman

Residents will vote for local officials, enjoy a baked bean meal and then get down to the business meeting, all on Saturday, March 20, at the town office building.

Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to noon. The meal, hosted by the Molunkus Valley Snowdrifters Club, will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The town meeting will start at 1 p.m.

Incumbent Robert P. Gould is unopposed for return to a three-year term as selectman. Franklin Vance is being challenged by John Qualey for the three-year seat on the school board.

The proposed municipal budget, at $445,874, is $36,000 higher than last year’s budget. The increases are due to a $15,000 request from the Upper Valley Economic Council for membership, road maintenance and benevolent accounts.

Reed Plantation

The proposed municipal and school budgets, totaling $239,000, will be presented to voters at the annual town meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 20, at the community hall.

The budget is not expected to raise the tax rate, which now is at $17.24 per $1,000 in property valuation. The school budget, at $85,000, is a slight decrease from last year’s budget.

With nominations from the floor, voters will elect an assessor to a three-year term, two school board members for three years and a clerk and treasurer for one year.

Blaine

Voters will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 22, at the Civic Center to elect officials and approve a municipal budget.

Nominations will be made from the floor for several three-year positions, including town clerk, two selectmen, one SAD 42 board member and a road commissioner.

The proposed total municipal budget is estimated at $229,300.

Chapman

The annual town meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 22, at the town hall to elect a selectman-assessor from the floor and to approve the proposed municipal budget.

Incumbent Milford P. Maynard is the sole candidate.

The budget has increased $14,261 from last year’s budget, to $242,525, to pay for highway improvements. The increase isn’t expected to raise the property tax rate.

Oakfield

The annual town meeting will be held Monday, March 22. Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. that same day at the town office for elections. The business meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the community center.

Incumbent John B. Nadeau is being challenged by Beverly D. Clark for the three-year term as selectman.

Incumbent Gregory B. Nevers is challenged by Paul M. Shields Jr. for the three-year seat on the school committee.

Voters will be asked to approve the $240,000 total municipal budget, down $40,000 from last year. The decrease was caused mainly by the town doing its own snowplowing instead of contracting out, lower cemetery maintenance costs and carrying forward a balance for the recycling costs.

Bridgewater

With an enrollment of 36 pupils in grades kindergarten through six, voters will decide at the polls Monday, March 22, whether to authorize the school committee to close the Bridgewater Grammar School.

Polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the civic building, followed by the 7 p.m. annual town meeting at the same place.

Incumbent Boyd Bradbury and Mark Simonson are candidates for the two three-year seats on the Board of Selectmen. Candidates for the school board are incumbent Charlene Bradbury for the three-year term and Roland Richardson for the one-year term. Incumbent Donna Kingsbury is the candidate for town clerk.

Voters will be asked to raise about $150,247 in local taxes for the municipal budget.
