ROCK HILL, S.C. – The University of Maine softball team split two games Friday, defeating the University of North Carolina-Greensboro 5-2 and losing to Colgate 3-0 in the second game.
Tara McGoff tossed the shutout for Colgate in the second game. She scattered three hits while walking none and notching eight strikeouts.
Katherine Williamson paced the Red Raiders with three singles and an RBI. Kerry Purvis added two singles and an RBI and Frances Boone doubled and knocked in a run.
Karyn McMullin led the Black Bear offense with two singles. Jill Cassie singled.
Vicki Brenner took the loss by allowing three runs in four innings of work. She gave up five hits and one walk while striking out none.

At Costa Mesa, Calif., Southern California College defeated Husson 8-0 Friday.
Brian Schneider earned the victory for the Vanguards. He scattered seven hits over seven innings while walking three and striking out two. James Dent knocked an RBI single in the sixth inning and added another in the eighth. Eric Booth doubled twice and drove in one.
Dennis Roy took the loss for Husson by allowing eight hits, two walks, and four runs over four innings of work. John Montgomery and Dan Curtis each singled twice.
