ST. ANDREWS, New Brunswick — The Kennebec Coalition, an affiliate of the Atlantic Salmon Federation’s Maine council, has been chosen the organization’s affiliate of the year.

Federation President Bill Taylor said the Kennebec Coalition conducted a decade-long campaign to restore 17 miles of the Kennebec River’s spawning habitat, obstructed since 1837, to Atlantic salmon and other migrating fish.

The site will be readied for removal of the Edwards Dam, allowing fish returning to the Kennebec in 2000 access to restored freshwater and spawning habitats.

The Atlantic Salmon Federation is an international, nonprofit organization that promotes conservation and management of the Atlantic salmon and its environment.
