NEW YORK, N.Y. – The University of Maine baseball team held off a late rally to defeat Columbia University 9-6 on Friday.

Jon Hambelton led the Black Bear offense by blasting two homers, singling, and driving in four runs. Chris Domurat singled and drove in three runs while Quin Peel added a single and an RBI. Mike Ross singled twice and stole two bases.

Rob Worcester earned the win by scattering nine hits over seven innings while walking four and striking out two. Worcester allowed four earned runs.

Andrew Pisano singled twice and tripled to pace the Columbia offense. Peter Aswad added two singles and an RBI while Kevin Holbert and Derek Johnson each singled twice.

Matt Waldman took the loss, giving up four runs, four hits and six walks in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two.
