BATH — Disgruntled commuters wondering who the turkey is who’s holding up traffic in Bath have already figured it out.
A wild turkey has been parking itself on Route 1, clogging traffic over the last several days.
On Tuesday, the turkey planted itself in the center of the Route 1 off-ramp, effectively shutting down rush-hour access to Bath Iron Works.
The quirky game bird also has been seen wandering past city landmarks.
“The turkey went to court,” said Arlene Losier, who sighted the gobbler Monday night as it ambled past the Sagadahoc County Courthouse.
Ann Harford, Bath’s animal control officer, said she starting receiving calls in November about wild turkeys roaming the city.
She attributed the turkey influx to a thriving population, and emphasized that there is nothing strange about encountering wild animals in urban areas.
