I would hope that the majority of legislators would be smart enough to vote against all bills for the state to purchase land. The state already owns enough land and if people think they will have as much freedom of access as they already have to land in the north woods, they are very much mistaken.
Witness the state’s ownership of Sears Island. Since the state has owned it, it is gated off and access is severly restricted. Also, there is no future tax revenue from this land. Furthermore, it costs money for the state to hire people to oversee this land. So think twice before voting for the state to buy more land. The state already owns over 5 percent of the land and the federal government owns over 1 percent. Please respect private property rights. William Koch Searsport
