In response to the column from the Eastern Maine Education Committee (BDN, April 3) — get real! It’s awesome for a vigil to be held, but isn’t it nice to have that kind of freedom?
Russia is in turmoil. America doesn’t need a relationship with Russia, they need us. These people are living in prehistoric days, assuming we’ll sit and watch a massacre.
The committee also stated that Milosevic’s popular support is strengthening — based on propaganda from a Yugoslavia television station.
There’s no doubt the refugees are going through misery. The nine who signed the column should instead figure a way to help with relief efforts and organize donations, such as clothing and medicine.
The most ironic statement this organization made was to demand the bombings stop and return civilian peace monitors. If the bombings do stop, the committee should volunteer for that politically correct position. After all, it is the Peace and Justice Center. Randy Carrow Hampden
