FARMINGTON – The University of Maine-Farmington swept Husson College of Bangor in a Maine Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Prescott Field on Tuesday, winning 8-5 in the first game and 15-7 in the second.

In the first game, Becky Roak tripled, singled and drove in a run for the Beavers.

Kelly Dow tripled for Husson behind loser Mel Deyone.

In the second game, Crystal Hulit homered twice and doubled for UM-Farmington. Wyman tripled.

Husson’s Angie Brawn tripled.

At Biddeford, Julie Jussaume pitched a three-hit shutout and Jessie Mayol tripled and singled twice as Bowdoin earned the win.

Megan Wardrop hit a three-run triple for the Polar Bears.

The University of New England’s Sarah Bernier took the loss despite firing a three-hitter and allowing no earned runs.

St. Joseph’s wins, ties with Thomas

At Waterville, St. Joseph’s of Standish defeated Thomas 12-1, then tied the Terriers 6-6 in the second game, which was called after 10 innings because of darkness.

In game one, Nancy Pote tripled, singled and knocked in two runs to lead St. Joseph’s. Sue Picard added a two-run double and Sarah Webster doubled and singled (1 RBI).

Katie Morrell singled and drove in Thomas’ only run. Bethanne Robinson tripled.

In game two, Kati Morrell hit a two-run double and singled twice for Thomas. Robinson singled and added an RBI double and Barany Chessa singled twice.

Erica Golden hit three singles and had an RBI for the Monks.

Delaware sweeps UMaine

At Wilmington, Del., Monday, Delaware took a doubleheader from the University of Maine to drop the Bears to 0-4 in the conference. Delaware won the first game 4-3 and the second 5-0.

In the first game, Lauren Mark tripled and scored in the sixth on Amanda Coriello’s sacrifice bunt in the sixth inning.

UMaine took a 1-0 lead on Leigh Ann Hlywak’s RBI double, but Delaware tied it when Mandy Welch doubled and later scored on an error.

The Blue Hens went ahead in the fourth on Christy Wilkins’ RBI double and a run-scoring single by Carolyn Wasilewski. The Bears tied it in the fifth on RBI singles by Katherine Fraser and Hlywak.

UMaine senior captain Jen Burton scattered five hits.

In the second game, Krysta Pidetawski’s four-hit shutout paced Delaware to victory. Laurie Brosnahan roped a two-out double in the first inning and Lauren Mark followed it with an RBI triple to give the Hens the only run they would need.

Delaware added three runs in the fourth, one on an error and another on a passed ball.

Vicki Brenner gave up eight hits for UMaine.

At Gorham, Greg Michaud tripled twice and singled three times, driving in three runs for the University of Southern Maine.

Jody Curcuru hit a three-run homer in the Huskies’ win. Mike McCullum and Pat Toomey each had three singles.

Dave DeCew doubled and singled twice for Bowdoin of Brunswick. Scott Marcantonio singled three times.
