WASHINGTON — The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor will receive a National Institutes of Health grant of $101,966 for human genetic research, said U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.
The grant will buy technology that enables scientists to gather genetic information at the twice the rate of current laboratory systems.
The technology, called a ABI Prism 7700 Sequence Detection System, uses fluorescence detection to examine genes. Researchers may analyze up to 500 samples a day with the new equipment.
