PRESQUE ISLE – The University of Maine-Presque Isle pounded out 43 hits in two games on Monday to sweep a softball doubleheader from Maine Maritime Academy. The Owls took the first game 14-6 and beat the Mariners 17-9 in the second.
In the first game, Cindy Trapnell went 4-for-4 with a homer, double and two singles to lift UMPI.
Trapnell scored three times and knocked in a run for the Owls. Michelle Young tripled twice and singled to drive in a run.
Stacy Ryan laced a pair of doubles and drove in two runs for MMA. Amanda Hanlon ripped a pair of singles.
In the second game, Heather Norsworthy had five hits, including a home run, double and three singles, scored three runs and knocked in two for the Owls.
Erin Soucy smacked three singles and a double, scored three runs and drove in two for the winners.
Hanl scored twice. Christina Partridge registered two singles and three RBIs.
