ORONO — The Maine Education Opportunity Center has announced the dates and locations of its introductory workshop, “MEOC 101.” It is the first in a series of informative workshops that help Mainers take advantage of higher education.

Last year, MEOC helped 2,349 individuals with admissions and financial aid information. Almost 200 obtained their GEDs and over 520 enrolled in post-secondary educational institutions.

The program targets low-income, first-generation college adults, not currently enrolled. Qualified adults receive all the services they need to prepare for and to enter a post-secondary educational program of study.

MEOC provides free educational and career assessment and counseling services; assistance in completing admissions and financial aid applications; and help with scholarship searches.

The workshops will be taking place in the following dates and locations:

Bangor

Tuesday, May 4, at Parkwoods.

Tuesday, May 11, at The Learning Center and at Training and Development Corp.

Newport

Tuesday, May 4, at the Northeast Occupational Exchange.

Calais

Tuesday, May 4, at the Calais Center of the University of Maine at Machias.

Machias

Monday, May 3, at MEOC Machias Service Center.

Monday, May 10, at MEOC Machias Service Center.
