Bucksport sophomore shuts out Foxcroft in first start

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Bucksport sophomore Andrea Pelletier tossed a one-hitter in her first varsity start to lead the Golden Bucks to a 6-0 schoolgirl softball victory over the Foxcroft Academy Ponies Wednesday.

Pelletier struck out 11 and walked four.

Annette Caswell had a double, two singles and an RBI for the winners and Jana Richards contributed two singles and a sacrifice fly.

Becky Warren singled in the first inning for Foxcroft Academy.

At Pittsfield, Sarah Dailey and Melissa Johnson homered as Camden-Rockport earned the win.

At East Millinocket, Abbie Bowen threw 4 2/3 innings of perfect ball before giving up a single. She pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Megan Russell singled three times with an RBI for Penquis. Sarah Gahagan had two singles and two RBIs and Erynn Bailey singled twice. Miranda Nichols added two singles.

Meliss Creehan singled for Schenck.

At Belfast, Jessica Aldus went 5-for-5 with a two-run homer, a three-run homer, a solo homer, a two-run double and a single to drive in eight runs for the Lions.

Mylie Collins tripled and singled twice while knocking in four runs for Belfast. Liz Kelley added a two-run homer and a single.

Ellen Ward had three singles and two RBIs for Mount View of Thorndike.

At Harrington, Laura Morse pitched a six-hitter and knocked in two runs with a triple and a double to pace the Knights.

Morse struck out eight and walked four. Ashley Woodward singled twice for Narraguagus.

Elizabeth Young hit two singles for Sumner of East Sullivan.

At Rockland, senior righty Rachel Ervin fired a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking four, and aided her own cause with a two-out, two-run double in the sixth and a pair of singles.

Lauren Darby had two singles for the Tigers and Jody Fournier had an RBI base hit.

Sara Alley singled and scored the run for Lincoln Academy of Newcastle behind loser Lindsay McFarland, who pitched a six-hitter.

At Orono, Jessica Libby (1-1) notched the win in relief and went 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Red Riots.

Laura Keating tripled, singled, and drove in a run for Orono. Sarah Benjamin had two singles and two RBIs. Ashley Simpson added two singles and an RBI.

Kristine Millard went 5-for-5 with two RBIs to lead John Bapst of Bangor.

At Harrington, Travis Bickford struck out nine while shutting out Narraguagus.

James Freeman singled twice and doubled, driving in four runs for Sumner of East Sullivan. Matt Welch added two singles, a double and three RBIs.

Zac Gage-Croll singled twice for Narraguagus.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Bucksport reliever Ricky McHale preserved the win by holding Foxcroft to one run after the Ponies loaded the bases with nobody out in the seventh.

Foxcroft got its seventh-inning run on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice before McHale induced a grounder back to the mound and struck out the final hitter.

Brothers Craig and Jason Harvey (two RBIs) had two singles each for the Bucks.

Foxcroft received two doubles from Justin Clawson, two singles each from Chris Chambers and Kyle Wentworth and a two-run single from Randy Kluj.

At Belfast, righty Brandon Hurd pitched a one-hitter, striking out six and walking one, and Bob Mitchell drove in four runs with a homer and two singles as Belfast won.

Mitchell hit a two-run homer in the six-run first inning and Peter Klausmeyer hit a two-run single. Klausmeyer and Josh Pooler had two singles each for the Lions.

Logan Feeney’s single in the second was Mount View’s only hit.

At Mount Desert, Tyler Balombini-Goddard’s two-run double, Mac Jackson’s RBI double and Peter Collier’s RBI single, on consecutive at-bats, sparked a decisive nine-run, fourth-inning rally.

The Eagles unleashed a 16-hit attack paced by Balombini-Goddard and Collier, who had two hits and three RBIs each. Toby Cole and Troy Bannister had two singles and two RBIs each with John Lewandowski, Mac Martin and Jackson contributing two singles and an RBI apiece.

Lucas Leathers doubled and singled (RBI), while Jeff Watson and Jason Chapman had two singles and an RBI apiece for MDI.

At Ellsworth, Billy Spreng scored all the way from first on Derrick Awalt’s two-out, pop-fly single in the bottom of the seventh to give Ellsworth its victory over Hermon.

Awalt and Courtney Bunker each drove in two runs for the winners. Awalt had two base hits and Bunker tripled and singled. Jon Wood had three singles and an RBI; winning pitcher Ryan Manjuck singled twice and scored three times and Matt Hardison singled twice.

Alan Hall doubled and singled and knocked in two runs for Hermon and Ryan Tweedie had a pair of base hits.

At Lee, freshman lefty Blair Emery spun a five-inning one-hitter in his first varsity start, striking out 11 and walking three.

Charlie Worster belted his fourth home run of the year and singled for the Pandas. Alex Nicholas, Matt Corbin, Travis Jacobs and Derek Dicker notched two singles apiece.

Justin Flood singled in the second inning for Woodland.

Adam Salvia struck out seven in four innings, but took the loss for the Red Devils of Corinth.
