BANGOR — Beal College held its 107th annual commencement exercise at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 9, at Peakes Auditorium at Bangor High School.
One hundred twenty-nine degrees and diplomas were awarded in the fields of business, law, medicine and tourism.
John R. McKernan, two-term Maine governor from 1987 to 1995, gave the commencement address. A supporter of education, McKernan has chaired and served on numerous educational boards and is the chief executive officer of McKernan Enterprises Inc. and Nottingham Equity Inc. in Portland.
At the 1999 commencement exercise, the class marshal was Kelly A. Stevens, medical administrative assisting. The master of ceremonies was Katherine Barnes, medical administrative assisting. Dr. Robert L. Veon, faculty member at Beal College, presented the invocation. Roxane Hachey, law enforcement, presented the student address to faculty. Joyce L. Theriault, travel and tourism, gave the farewell address.
President Allen T. Stehle gave remarks and the presentation of degrees with announcement of candidates by Theresa Morrow of the academic advisory committee. Elizabeth Pelletier of the Northern Conservatory of Music played music.
The Beal College 1999 class valedictorian is Joyce L. Theriault of the travel and tourism program. The salutatorian is Kelly A. Bushey of the travel and tourism program.
