HAMPDEN – Jamie Wells pitched 11 innings, registering 15 strikeouts and a pair of wins as Hampden Academy swept Caribou 12-3 and 15-3 in schoolgirl softball action Saturday.

In the second game, Sarah Trask hit a grand slam and single, driving in five runs to lead Hampden.

Julie Sjogren singled twice and drove in three runs for the Broncos. Jen Philbrook went 4-for-4 with a triple and three singles.

Kathryn Scott and Tiffany Nason had two singles each for the Vikings.

In the first game, Wells struck out eight in six innings and added two singles and an RBI as the Broncos cruised.

Brie Drummond singled twice to drive in a pair of runs in the win. Katie Lindemann and Trask had two singles and an RBI apiece.

Bangor Christian sweeps Shead

At Eastport, Bangor Christian posted a pair of shutouts and racked up 54 hits in two games to sweep Shead High School. The Patriots won the first game 17-0 and took a 14-0 win in game two.

In the first game, Renee Mick fired a two-hitter, striking out 10 and walking one to lead BC.

Heather Niles and Heidi Niles had two singles and three RBIs each for the Patriots. Rachael Sage ripped two doubles and drove in two runs while Mick singled twice and doubled.

In the second game, Lari Sobey pitched a no-hitter, striking out eight in the win.

Julie Clement homered, singled and drove in two runs for the Patriots. Heidi Niles drove in four runs with a pair of base hits. Meredith Moores tripled twice and knocked in a pair.

Bangor sweeps Presque Isle

At Presque Isle, the Rams made use of solid pitching and infield defense to earn 9-2 and 14-1 victories over the Wildcats.

In the first game, Bangor’s Kori Dionne and Danielle Pinkerton each singled twice.

In the second game, Dionne hit a one-run triple and singled. Kristan Strout drove in two runs on a single and Pinkerton singled twice and drove in a run. Presque Isle’s Jessica Martin singled to drive in Kristen Supa, who tripled.

At Old Town, Tara Drinkwater struck out 14 and walked two to help the Indians stay undefeated.

Drinkwater also homered in the sixth inning, hit a double and drove in an RBI. Tiffany Nadeau singled twice.

Liz Mendell paced the Warriors of Newport with two singles. Adrienne Nickerson hit a double and Courtney Carter struck out six.

Hampden beats Caribou twice

At Hampden, the Broncos pounded out 23 hits en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Vikings, winning the first game 14-4 in five innings and the second game 13-7.

In the first game, Jesse McCue struck out seven and walked two in five innings. Tom Davis hit a two-run single and added two more singles and two more RBIs and Hampden tallied 11 stolen bases. Dan Umphrey paced Caribou with a double and two singles.

In the second game, McCue hit a two-run homer and added an RBI single for the Broncos. Ben Preston doubled twice and singled for three RBIs and Pat Lacey drove in three runs on two singles. Ryan King and Adam Waite combined for 10 strikeouts for the Broncos.

At Eastport, Mark Reitsma collected nine RBIs in just five innings in the first game to kick off a doubleheader sweep for the Patriots. Bangor Christian won 21-0 in the opener and 17-13 in the second.

In the first game, Reitsma smacked a grand slam, a double and two singles. Nate Conley hurled a one-hitter, striking out 11. Tyler Wilson added a homer and three singles, driving in three runs. Corey Jesky singled twice and drove in four runs.

In the second game, Jon Chrisos stroked four singles and drove in three runs for the Patriots. Nick Harriman added four singles and two RBIs while Matt Conley singled three times. Reitsma had a solo homer.

Bangor takes 2 from Presque Isle

At Presque Isle, Bangor’s Josh McAuliffe knocked in 10 runs as the Rams took two games from the Wildcats, winning the first game 24-4 and the second game 18-4.

In the first game, McAuliffe hit two three-run homers. Shawn Bouchard homered, doubled and singled for four RBIs. Chris Shead drove in three runs on two singles and two doubles. Presque Isle’s Nick Nadeau hit a solo homer.

In the second game, McAuliffe homered and hit a double. Jeremy Karam drove in four runs on three singles and Matt Soucie hit two singles and doubled for three RBIs. Jim Shea drove in three runs and hit a single and a double.

Penobscot Valley sweeps Schenck

At Mansfield Stadium, Bangor, Penobscot Valley High School of Howland swept Schenck of East Millinocket with 10-6 and 11-7 wins.

In the first game, Heath Lemay hit a grand slam, double and single to drive in five runs for the Howlers.

Matt Dobson hit two singles and a triple and added four RBIs for Penobscot Valley. Stan Williams ripped two singles and Brad Thibodeau hit a triple.

Shawn Rosebush doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Wolverines. Aaron Turcotte and Adam Stanley notched two singles each.

In the second game, Steve Hallett pitched seven innings of 3-hit relief, striking out 12 to pace the Howlers.

Dobson had four hits, including two doubles and two singles, and two RBIs for PVHS. Hallett hit a triple, double and single while Lemay tripled and singled with two RBIs.

Rosebush rapped two triples and drove in two runs for Schenck. Jeff Osborne doubled.
