NEWPORT – The Nokomis Warriors of Newport came from behind in the first game to edge Presque isle 11-10, but the Wildcats handled the Warriors 12-2 in the second for a baseball doubleheader Saturday split.

In the first game, Richie Otis’s RBI double and Joe Mendle’s RBI single scored the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the sixth as Nokomis edged the Wildcats.

Greg Morris was 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs. Joe Mendle also went 3-for-3 for Nokomis.

Brad Boyles hit three singles for Presque Isle and Jon Constant had a double, triple and three RBIs.

In the second game, Boyles had a triple and two singles, and Jeff Yeager hit a three-run homer in the sixth to pace the ‘Cats.

Scott Deraps had two singles and an RBI for Nokomis.

At Guilford, Travis Curtis pitched a five-hitter, striking out nine, and added two hits as Searsport defeated Piscataquis.

Curtis launched a two-run home run and a single for the Vikings. Nate Hall singled and tripled while Aaron Tripp cranked a solo homer.

For the Pirates, Shane Overlock went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and drove in a run.

Mattanawcook sweeps PVHS

At Mansfield Stadium, Bangor, Adam Miller and Jared Tash limited Penobscot Valley to five runs and 12 hits in two games as Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln swept the Howlers. The Lynx won the first game 12-3 and came back with a 6-2 victory in game two.

In the first game, B.J. Birtz doubled, singled twice and knocked in three runs to lift the Lynx.

Zac Reed ripped a double and three singles for Mattanawcook. Matt McLellan added two singles and John Crocker drilled a two-run single. Tash fired a seven-hitter.

Matt Dobson notched two singles and an RBI for Penobscot Valley. Fred Weymouth added a double and single.

In game two, Miller tossed a five-hitter and walked just three as Mattanawcook completed the sweep.

Wade Jordan smacked a single and double, driving in two runs for the Lynx. Miller rapped two singles and had two RBIs. McLellan added a pair of singles.

Steve Hallett tripled and singled to drive in a run for the Howlers. Benji Jipson contributed two singles.

At East Millinocket, the Wolverines rallied from a 7-0 defecit with eight runs in the fourth inning and went on to beat Central of Corinth.

Brad Hebert smacked a three-run triple in the fourth inning for Schenck. Mike Hamlin notched two singles and an RBI. Adam Dempsey clubbed a two-run single in the fifth inning.

Andy Matulis ripped a double and single to drive in two runs for the Red Devils. Andy Koncinsky hit two singles and knocked in a run. Adam Salvia blasted a solo home run.

At Husson College in Bangor, Nick Raymond hit three singles to help the unbeaten Bucksport Golden Bucks remain that way.

Buzz Simpson had two singles and two RBIs for the Bucks. Pete Saunders had a double, single, and RBI.

Matt Fisher had a double, single, and an RBI. Nate Susi hit a double and single, while Tony Tremble hit an RBI single.

Softball

Royalettes sweep DI-Stonington

At Jonesport, Tricia Carver pitched two complete games, allowing a total of nine hits while striking out 22 as Jonesport-Beals took a pair of games from Deer Isle-Stonington. The Royalettes defeated the Mariners 8-7 in game one before a 3-2 victory in the second game.

In the first game, Angela Merchant hit a bases-loaded double with two-out in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Jonesport-Beals.

Tricia Carver fired a six-hitter and struck out 12 in the win. Chelsie Carver contributed a double, single and an RBI.

Roz Santospago drilled a two-run double and finished with three RBIs for the Mariners. Misty Fifield added two singles.

In game two, Carver pitched a one-hitter and struck out 10 to pace the Royalettes.

Carrie Woodward drove in the tying run with a single and scored the winning run on Raelea Merchant’s fielder’s choice in the bottom of the sixth for Jonesport-Beals.

Fifield notched a single for Deer Isle-Stonington.

At Guilford, Teri Barlin slapped three singles and drove in three runs, pacing Searsport past Piscataquis Community High School.

Meghan Lavway (two RBIs) and Laura Holweger had two singles apiece for the Vikings. Brenda Nickerson added an RBI single.

Kalli Pulkkinen went 4-for-5 with three singles, a double and four RBIs to lead the Pirates. Garnet Korsman knocked in three runs with a single and double. Jane Burdin and Alice White-Cyr hit two singles each.

Shawna Lyons drilled three singles and knocked in a run for Southern Aroostook. Desiree Horton added two singles, a double and two RBIs.

Lynn Farrington tripled in a run and Alicia Cram added a run-scoring single for the Wolverines.

Brewer sweeps Caribou

At Brewer, Tami Corey led Brewer’s offense and formed one half of the starting pitching that limited Caribou to 11 total hits in both games as the Witches swept a doubleheader 7-4 and 12-0.

In the first game, Corey (7-5) scattered eight hits and provided much of the offense with a solo home run in the sixth and two doubles for two RBIs.

Allison Wing also paced the Witches with a triple, single, and one RBI. Cara McEwen singled twice and Alison Strang hit a solo homer in the fourth.

Sabrina Butler singled twice and Jamie Landeen hit a double for Caribou.

In the second game, freshman Sherri Capponi (2-0) pitched a two-hitter in her second varsity start to lead the Witches to victory.

Strang led the offense with a double, single, and three RBIs. Wing had two singles and an RBI while Corey and Sarah Smith each hit two singles.

Butler, Billie-Jo Martin, and Meghann Scott each hit a single for the Vikings’ only hits.

M.A. Lynx sweep PVHS

At Lincoln, Kari Vance pitched both games of a doubleheader, allowing a total of 10 hits, to help lead the Mattanawcook Academy Lynx to 19-12 and 14-2 victories over Penobscot Valley of Howland Saturday.

In the first game, Brandi Rideout led a 20-hit attack with four singles and two RBIs for the Lynx. Vance had a double, two singles, and two RBIs. Bobbi-Lyn Reed, Carly Mansur, and Taryn Turcotte each hit three singles.

Rachel Dawson doubled and singled while Meagan Cyr had two singles for the Howlers.

In the second game, Vance doubled, singled twice, and drove in three runs. Rideout had another solid effort with a double, single, and three RBIs.

Rachel Dawson, Jessica Curtis and Jenny Soucie each singled for the only PVHS hits.
