Daniels helps Orono-OT gain split with Waldo

BELFAST – Orono-Old Town pounded out 17 hits, including Darrin Daniels’ solo homer, two-run home run and two singles, to earn a 17-8 victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Waldo Saturday.

Waldo came back to win 6-4 in the second game.

In the first game, Aaron Civiello added a two-run home run and three singles for three RBIs. Jason Sirois went 3-for-5 with three singles and two RBIs. Daniels finished with five RBIs. Rory O’Donnell led Waldo with an RBI single.

In the second game, Waldo’s Brandon Hurd smacked a three-run homer in the second inning. Mike McDonald singled and scored after stealing two bases and Matt Woodrow hit a two-run single. The Twins got all of their runs on homers, including solo shots by Civiello and Zach Gasaway and a two-run homer by Jason Folsom.

Trenton, Bangor split

At Ellsworth, Toby Cole hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive in pinch runner Courtney Bunker and Jon Lewandowski and lift the Acadians to an 11-10 victory over the Comrades in the first game of a doubleheader. Bangor came back to win the second game 8-4.

In the opener, Derek Awalt and John Reed each had pinch-hit singles to set up the winning runs. Cole went 3-for-5 with two singles and a double. Lewandowski finished with two singles and two RBIs. Josh Johnson led Bangor with a double, a single and two RBIs. David Utterback drove in two runs on two singles.

In the nightcap, Utterback went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a single and three RBIs to pace the Comrades. Johnson hit three singles and David Lisnik singled twice and drove in a run. Cole led the Acadians with a 4-for-4 effort, including two singles, a double and a triple.
